Gary graduated from the US Naval Academy in 1973 and served six years on board nuclear, ballistic missile, and attack submarines.
In 1979, when Gary left the military service, he started his 32-year career with Southern California Edison, holding various management positions. He concluded his time at SCE in the renewable and alternative resources department where he performed financial analyses and regulatory interface regarding the power purchase contracts with renewable generating resources.
Gary received his MBA with an emphasis in finance from California State University, Fullerton in 1985. From 1986 through 1990, Gary was on staff as a supplemental instructor in the Finance Department of CSUF, teaching introductory finance and quantitative forecasting techniques. Gary has been an active stock trader and retirement planner for over 10 years, as he planned for his retirement from SCE.

He and his wife Shirley have a home in Lake Forest, California. Gary enjoys traveling and spending time with his family. He is involved at Saddleback Church and enjoys the fellowship of his congregation.
